Protecting Intellectual Freedom and the Right to Read
I was born in Detroit, grew up in Livonia, and moved to Livingston County with my family in 2007. One of my first stops was the Cromaine Library to get my library card. Pretty much from the moment I could read, I have loved libraries and what they represent; that is, the collected wisdom of humanity. Writing and reading are what allow us to pass down our knowledge and experiences to future generations.
Professionally, I am a resident playwright at The Purple Rose Theatre (Chelsea, MI), where ten of my plays have been produced (and come see the premiere of Mildred Whiskey in 2027!). I have had productions from New York to Tasmania, and in January my dark comedy, Vino Veritas, is being produced by the Hartland Players. In addition, I taught in the English Department of Wayne State University for four decades, and also coached Hartland Soccer for years.
Cromaine Library is an absolutely wonderful institution and I am running for the Board in the hope of making it even more useful and relevant for everyone in our community, from preschoolers to senior citizens. Yes, it offers books, media, and wi-fi, but it also offers a tremendous variety of programs and other resources. If elected, I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to benefit the library (and my personal heroes, librarians), in any and every way possible.
Award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and novelist.
